How to measure waist and hips for continence products
Two measurements, taken carefully, are enough to select a continence product size with confidence.
Continence product sizes are based on body measurement in centimetres, not clothing size. A soft tape measure is all that is needed.

What you need
A soft dressmaker’s tape measure, light clothing, and somewhere to write the numbers down. If the person is more comfortable seated or lying down, measurements can still be taken, though standing is usually easiest.
Measuring the waist
Find the natural waist — usually the narrowest point between the ribs and the hips — and bring the tape around it, keeping it level all the way round. The tape should sit against the body without compressing it. Record the number in centimetres.
Measuring the hips
Measure around the widest part of the hips and seat, keeping the tape parallel to the floor. Feet should be together where possible. Record this number separately from the waist.
Which measurement to use
Compare both numbers against the product fit ranges. If they indicate different sizes, use the larger measurement. A product that fits the hips can be adjusted at the waist far more easily than the reverse.
